[4:06] Pastor Sherry and I were actually in the same class for the first time. We've never actually had that experience before and it was a very interesting and wonderful time. What praises do you have this morning on this beautiful day?
[4:19] I know you have some. God has filled us to overflowing. What are those things that we're grateful for today?

[12:28] Who is experiencing treatment Radiation treatments From For a cancer To deal with A rather aggressive tumor We want to pray for Max Yes Yes I have a relative I'm not exactly sure Through marriage A second cousin Something like that But he recently Was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer As bread wrap Yes Oh dear Yes Yes Another A relative With stage 4 cancer And of course Health insurance Plays in To this And there is There isn't any So we want to pray For God to provide We want to pray For healing We want to pray For wisdom Any others this morning With these concerns And those that are In your heart Whether you join me From your seat Or at the rail Let's turn to the Lord In prayer God of all creation

[14:31] That you are the one Who has given us The love in our hearts That we need Lord we pray For those who are Sick and infirm For those with cancers For those with Surgeries For those Who are recovering From all kinds Of difficulties And traumas In their spirits Their souls And their bodies We just pray In Jesus name That you would Be with them That you would Touch them And that you Would be in And with those People who are Working with them Whether they be Medical professionals Or caregivers Or family members Or friends Whoever it is Lord God Let them have And know Your love So that they Can minister well And pray for all Of those Lord God Who are grieving Losses of all
[15:32] Kinds Who are missing Loved ones Who have Broken Relationships Who have Any of a number Of things That cause loss And the sense Of loss And separation From those things That make us Feel safe From those people Who help us To feel loved Lord we thank you That we can also Pray for people Who are in need Financially Whether they lack Health insurance Or they lack A job Or they lack A good place To stay And decent food On the table Lord we pray In Jesus name That you would Bring people In to help That you would Relieve their Circumstances Lord and give Them what they Need Not only in terms Of their immediate Physical needs But also

[23:38] That They Should Do Is Cause Trouble For Everybody Else You know It used To Be That We Had Watched The News For A Half An Hour Or An Hour In The Evening Now The Thing Runs 24 Hours A Day Seven Days A Week On Like Fifteen Channels And You Even Get Alerts On Your Cell Phone Right I Had Somebody Say To Me That That That That's Part Of Our Problem The Cell Phones Constant Barrage Of People Ripping Each Other Apart Tearing Each Other Down I Don't Turn On The News It's Not News Has Anybody Else Seen This It's Not News Anymore I Just Want To Know What Happened In The World Today I Understand The Fire Is Out West You Know Trouble With A Congressman I Understand You Might Have To Tell Us The Bad News I Get That But This Constant Attacking And Destroying
[24:38] Other People Why Because People Have Too Much Time Literally Too Much Time On Their Hand So So He Tells Us We Shouldn't Be That Way In Fact Jesus In Chapter 5 Of Matthew Said To Us I Tell You Love Your Enemies And Pray For Those Who Persecute You Could You Imagine Every Newscaster Before They Went On The Air If They Had To Read That Line Love Your Enemies And Pray For Those Who Persecute You We Think We're Supposed To Hate People Who Disagree With Us And God Calls Us To Love People Who Have Even Hurt Us After World War II The United States Decided To Rebuild Japan And Rebuild Germany We Actually Spent Hundreds Of Millions Of Dollars Fixing Their Country Because We Found Out That After World War I When We Punish Them We Put Punishing Taxes And Reparations On Them They Just
[25:38] Came Back And Went To War Against Us Against But Instead We Made Friends For Decades Love Your Enemies Pray For Those Who Persecute You Paul Is Writing To The Thessalonians Boy That's A Mouthful And The Thessalonians Were A Group Of People That When He Went There Didn't Treat Him Very Well They They Beat Him Up They Wanted To Kill Him And The Reason Was Because He Didn't Agree With Everything They Said Live In Peace With Each Other Do No Harm The Symbol For Peace In Our World What's The Animal Anybody Know A Dove Do You Know Why Because The Dove Is A Symbol In The Bible Of The Holy Spirit When Jesus Was Baptized It Said The Holy Spirit Descended On Jesus Like A Dove So Actually
[26:38] The World Symbol For Peace Is The Christian Symbol For The Holy Spirit And If We Have The Holy Spirit We'll Have More Peace You Know How We Pass The Peace Of The Spirit With One Another To Pass Love To Pass Joy To Pass Blessings There's A Couple Gifts I Want To Talk About This Morning Maybe You Have These Gifts Everybody Can Have Them To Some Degree One Is Encouragement And The Other Is What's Called Exhortation Encouragement Is Just To Help People To Feel Better About Life Wouldn't It Be Great If Everywhere You Went People Were Trying To Build You Up And Seeing How Wonderful You Are Wouldn't It Be Great If If If You Have A Place Where People Would Just Say You're Fantastic I'll Tell You Right Now Before You Were Even Born God Decided That There Was Something Absolutely Amazing
[27:39] About You And He Wrote It Into Your DNA That You Could Be Absolutely Incredible If You Live For What God Made You To Be That's The Truth You Are Amazing If You Allow God To Work Through You Now The Interesting Thing About Exhortation Which Some People See As Preaching And The Word Encouragement Is That In The Bible They Come From The Greek Word Paraklesius Now I Read That And I Was Looking That Up And It Was Like What I I Know That Word The Word Actually Means To Come Along Side And It Used To Represent The The Holy Spirit Because In The Holy Spirit God Comes Alongside Us And The Holy Spirit Encourages Us And Nurtures Us And Tells Us Wonderful And Great Things And Blesses Us So
[28:39] The Gift Of Paraklesius Is Really Just The Gift Of Having The Holy Spirit In A Powerful Way In Your Life Enough So That You Turn Off And Tune Out All The Negative Noise And Do No Harm Be Good There's An Interesting One Isn't It Be Good In Verse 15 It Simply Says Make Sure That Nobody Pays Back Wrong For Wrong But Always Strive To Do Good And What Is Good For Each Other And For Everyone Else Do Good Don't Do Evil In Fact Again It Goes On To Say Reject Evil Of Every Kind In Verse 22 Reject Evil Push It Out Of Your Life Because Evil Destroys You Because Sin Has Negative Consequences And When We Pull Evil Into Our Lives We Open Up Our Lives For Brokenness But
[29:39] We Get Tempted Anybody Here Ever Been Tempted Is There Anyone Okay I Was Afraid It Was Just Me This Was A Long Time Ago Confession Time I Was Downtown In Buffalo And A Guy Came Up To Me With A Package You Know A Computer Box And He Said This Fell Off A Truck Anybody Know What That Means That Really Fall Off Trucks I Knew What That Meant Okay But I Also Knew You Know It Is Going To Go To Somebody So You Know They Were Offering Me A Fifteen Hundred Dollar Computer For A Hundred Fifty Dollars Cash I Knew That Was Wrong I Knew That Was A Bad Thing And I Shouldn't Do It I I'm Going To Get A Fifteen Hundred Dollar Computer For 150 Bucks Come On Somebody Is Going To Get It Why You Know How You Do That You Start Making These Rationalizations So I Got The Hundred And Fifty Dollars And I Gave It To The Guy And He Ran Away And I Scurried
[30:40] Off To My Car And I Opened Up My Package Really Good To See My New Computer And There Were Four Phone Books In There Dear God I'm Sorry You Know That Evil Is Going To You You Know That When You Do Wrong The Consequences Are Going To Be Bad Right We Know That We're Aware Of It That If You Bring Evil Into Your Life Evil Into Your House Evil Into Your World That There Will Be Consequences That Will Cause You To Have Pain And Hurt Other People So John Wesley Said It's Very Simple Took It Right Here From First Thessalonians Chapter Five Do Good Strive To Do Good And What Is Good For Each Other And For Everyone Because Evil Is Trying To Destroy You In The Very Beginning Of The Bible There Were Two Brothers Cain And Abel And They Brought Their Offerings Before God Cain Brought Whatever Leftovers He Had And
[31:40] Abel Brought The Best Parts Of What He Had And God Accepted Abel's Offering But He Rejected Given With Such A Sincere Heart And Cain Got Mad And So God Said To Cain These Words He Said If You Do What's Right Will You Not Be Accepted But If You Do Not Do What Is Right Sin Is Crouching At Your Door It's Desirous To Have You But You Need To Rule Over It And The Way We Rule Over It Is Through The Power Of Holy Spirit Because The Bible Says Greater Is He That Is In Us Than He That Is In The World If You Don't Have God In Your Life You Can't Overcome Evil You Can't Overcome Satan He's An Archangel You Really Think You're Better Than An Archangel You Can't Resist Evil Without God But With The Power Of The Holy Spirit You Can Literally Cast That Evil Out You Do Not Have To Be Mastered By It I Will Tell You Right Now Satan And His Demons Know What Their Future Is The
[32:41] Bible Tells Us They're Going To Be Tossed In A Lake Of Fire They Know They're Going To Be Destroyed And You Know What They Want To Do They Want To Take As Many Of Us With Them As They Can As Soon As You Put Evil In Your Life As Soon As You Allow Evil To Start Controlling You You Will See Bad Things Happen So It's Very Simple Be Good Make May God Keep You Blameless It Says Blameless At The Coming Of The Lord Live Into The Power Of The Holy Spirit In Fact Ephesians Actually Says Don't Grieve The Holy Spirit It Says It This Way In Chapter Four Do Not Let Any Unwholesome Talk Come Out Of Your Mouth But Only What Is Helpful For Building Up Others According To Their Needs That It May Benefit Those Who Listen See The Encouragement And Do Not Grieve The Holy Spirit With Whom You Were Sealed For The Day Of Redemption Get
[33:41] Rid Of All Bitterness Rage Anger Brawling And Slander Along With Every Form Of Malice Just Be Good And Do No Harm And Live At Peace With Each Other But Somehow That's Not So Easy To Do And The Problem Is There's A Tension Between Being Good And Doing No Harm You See For Some People They Hear Do No Harm And They Mean Treat Everybody Okay And Accept Whatever They Are And Whatever They Do As Being All Right And That Leads To A Form Of Licentiousness Which Brings Evil Into The World So Sometimes Doing No Harm And Trying To Live At Peace With Everyone Else Means Letting Anything Happen Which Can Cause Evil To Spread Throughout Our World And So Then We Have People Who Are Saying Well Then We Need To Do Good And Concentrate On That And They Come Across As Self Righteous And Judgmental And Unloving And You See The Problem We Have And We're Just Trying To Do What God Wants But We Become Part
[34:41] Of The Problem Instead Of Part Of The Solution Make sure That Nobody Pays Back Wrong For Wrong But Always Strive To Do Good What Is Good For Each Other And For Everyone Else See The Difficulty Is Is That We've Got Our Focus In The Wrong Direction If You've Been Here Before You've Probably Seen This Before You Know My Jacket On The Outside Is Kind Of Rough That's Kind Of To Protect Me From The World Around Me And It's Nice And Soft And Silky And Comfortable On The Inside Okay But What God Wants Us To Do Is Turn The Whole Thing Inside Out Right And Start Living With The Softness The Love The Kindness The Warmth For Everybody Else Be Loving To Everyone And Put The Harshness The Judgment The Concern About Getting Things Right On You If Everybody Concentrated On Making Themselves Better And
[35:41] Stopped Worrying About Their Neighbors But Love Their Neighbors We Have So Much Less Pain In Our World God Wants Us To Live Inside Out The Love We Have And The Concern We Have For Ourselves And Those We Know He Wants Us To Turn Out To The World And The Concern About Being Righteous He Wants Us To Turn That Towards Us Because People Won't Care What You Know Until They Know You Care People Won't Listen To What God Says Is Right And Wrong Until They Have God In Their Heart And So If Live Into God We Live Into The Power That He Wants To Give Us It Like A House You We're Talking About Making A House A Home And We've Gone Outside How Many Of You Have A Front Yard How
[36:42] Many Of You Have A Back Yard How Many Of You Have Boat Yeah Right How Many Of You Live In Your Front Yard One Or Two Of You Most Of Us Don't Live In Our Front Yards We Spend A Lot Of Effort Money And Everything Else To Make The Front Yard Look Perfect For Other People And We Live In Love And Comfort And Joy In Our Backyard We Have A Barbecue We Sit In Our Comfortable Chairs We Have Picnics And We Don't Even Worry If It Doesn't Look Perfect Wants Us To Flip That Around At Silver Lake We Live In Our Front Yard We Keep Our Junk In The Backyard Okay And We Never Go There Except To Put Junk There And We Put Our Love Out On The Front Yard In Fact We Have Three Layers Of Porches Three Layers Of Porches All The Way Up The Downstairs Porch Is The Front Yard
[37:42] For Us When You're Sitting On The Downstairs Porch Everybody That Goes By Wants To Talk And Visit With You When You're Sitting On The Upstairs Porch It Means You Really Don't Want To Talk To Anybody And People Leave You Alone And If You Go Up In The Tower Nobody Talks Because They Can't Even See You We Spend Most Of Our Time On The Downstairs Porch Because God Wants Us And Our Difficulty Is We're Not Living For God We're Living For Everything Else We've Lost Our Focus People Are Complaining People Are Unhappy People Are Saying Life Is Bad I Read An Article In The Newspaper The Other Day And They Said That Actually The Crime Rate Has Gone Way Down The Murder Rate Is Plummeted The Amount Of People Who Are Living In Poverty Around The World 30%
[38:44] Of The World's Population Living In Hunger To 10% And Everybody Thinks Life Is Terrible His Philosophy Is It's Because Of This Thing Constant Constant Barrage With Things That Are Wrong I Don't Understand That Because I Only Use This To Make Phone Calls I Know It's An Amazing Concept But To Me A Phone Is Something You Make Phone Calls On I I Don't Do All This Is The Most Prosperous
[39:44] Culture That Has Ever Existed We Are The Most Prosperous Nation In The World That Has Ever Been On The Face Of The Earth Most Of Us Live Like Kings And Queens Would Have Imagined Living Two Or Three Hundred Years Ago We Have More Comfort More Blessing Than Anybody Has Ever Had And Our Culture Is Turning Away From God The People Who Are Living That Barely Struggle To Even Have Enough Food To Eat Are Turning To Jesus Left And Right All Over The World And It's Only Us People That Have Been Blessed By God That Have Decided We Don't Need Them Anymore See Where The Problem Is We Keep Our Focus On God And To Tell You The Truth If We Don't Keep Our Focus On God God Is Going To Take Away The Blessings That Is What He Promises So We Need To Learn How To Turn To God In Verse 18 It Says Give Thanks In All Circumstances
