David answered, "You come at me with sword and spear and battle-ax. I come at you in the name of God-of-the-Angel-Armies, the God of Israel's troops, whom you curse and mock. This very day God is handing you over to me." -1 Samuel 40:45

[0:00] Thank you.
[0:30] Thank you.
[1:00] Thank you.
[1:30] Thank you. Thank you. Good morning. Good morning. Welcome to a unique service.
[1:41] This service was planned, designed, and mostly written by the youth of the church. So we hope that you enjoy it. We have a couple announcements this morning, and we're going to do those ahead of time.
[1:55] Remember to bring in items for the shoebox and sign up for the shoebox packing party on November 7th. Also, this past Friday was our last fish fry of the fall season, and we want to thank Carl and everyone who helped, as well as anyone who came and shared in that with everybody.
[2:18] And then finally, make sure that you fill out your All Saints Memorial card for November 6th and 7th.
[2:35] We'll be celebrating All Saints Day. We will have the children joining us for a little while today, just so you're aware. The theme of our service this week is faith over fear, and we thought that was very fitting, seeing that it was Halloween.
[2:53] So we hope you enjoy it.
[3:14] Good morning. My name is Rachel Kumkubiak. And I'm Paige. Please join us in the call to worship. We come to worship. Sometimes more like David, and sometimes more like David.
[3:30] We come to worship. To remember to trust in your strength, and to lie our own, and to live in the calling you have on our lives.
[3:41] We come to worship. To give it all in our heart, and all in our heart, and glory. So let us worship our God. Let us greet one another as a sign of God's peace.
[3:55] The peace of God is here to stay. Let us take our refuge. We need to get them, which is overview and know the spirit.
[4:09] Good morning.
[4:38] Good morning, everybody. Good morning to everybody online. The youth have picked all the music for today, so they have made Sanginite honorary youth. And one of the first hymn is Leaning on the Everlasting Arms, hopefully one of your favorites as well.
[4:56] But it comes from Deuteronomy 33, verse 27. It says, The eternal God is your dwelling place, and underneath are the everlasting arms.
[5:06] And we know he's the God of the mountains and the God of the valleys, and in him he is our refuge. So I invite you to stand as we sing our first hymn. What a fellowship, what a joy to come.
[5:26] Leaning on the everlasting arms. What a blessedness, what a peace is one. Leaning on the everlasting arms.
[5:40] Leaning, leaning. Safe and secure from all alarms. Leaning, leaning.
[5:54] Leaning on the everlasting arms. Leaning, leaning.
[6:28] Leaning, leaning. Leaning on the everlasting arms. What have I to dread?
[6:39] What have I to fear? Leaning on the everlasting arms. I have blessed peace with my Lord's ear.
[6:51] Leaning on the everlasting arms. Leaning, leaning. Leaning, leaning. Leaning, leaning. Leaning, leaning.
[7:01] Safe and secure from all alarms. Leaning, leaning. Leaning on the everlasting arms.
[7:17] You may be seated. I am. I am. I am.
[8:19] I am.
[8:49] I am. I am.
[9:21] I am. I am. I am. I am. I am. I am.
[9:33] I am. I am. I am. I am. I am. I am.
[9:45] I am. I am. I am. I am. I am. I am.
[9:57] I am. I am. I am. I am. I am. I am.
[10:09] I am. I am. I am. I am. I am. I am.
[10:21] I am. I am. I am. I am. I am. I am.
[10:33] I am. I am. I am. I am. I am. I am.
[10:45] I am. I am. I am. I am. I am. I am.
[10:57] Hey! Hey, Goliath! Okay, guys.
[11:29] So, what words did they keep saying in that song? What did they say, Ed? Goliath. Goliath. Alright, does anyone know who Goliath is?
[11:45] Yeah, he's really tall. How tall? Goliath is nine feet tall. You want to see how tall that is? Alright, who wants to be my special helper?
[11:58] Alright, Abby, you raise your hand first. Come here. Alright, ready? So, you grab this and just keep walking that way. I'll tell you when to stop. Right?
[12:15] That's how tall this guy was. Are you that tall? No? I don't know anyone that's that tall. That's pretty big. This guy was a giant.
[12:27] And everyone, all of the Israelites were super, super scared to fight him because that's pretty big. I wouldn't want to fight him. Would any of you guys fight him? I mean, you guys are pretty brave.
[12:38] Abby, you would? Jacqueline, you would? Okay. Ellie. Okay, so we do have some brave warriors here.
[12:50] Just like David. Because David, he was young, just like you guys. But he was really cool, just like you guys. And he was not scared.
[13:01] Even though everyone else in the whole town was way too scared to fight the giant. No one was willing to do that. But David had so much faith. And he didn't even have any armor or anything.
[13:15] He didn't have any real weapons. The only thing he brought with him were a couple rocks. Yeah, I know. That's so weird, isn't it, Ellie? I don't know why there's sticks here.
[13:30] I think those are for later. But this guy, he only brought some rocks with him. And then, he didn't even have any armor to protect him against this huge giant.
[13:45] But do you want to know why he wasn't scared? Abby, why do you think he wasn't scared? Because he had power of God by his side. Yeah, he had God with him. So, we don't have to do, we don't have to be afraid at all when we have God with us.
[14:01] Which, I know, is kind of hard because some things are scary, right? Yeah. Are there any things that you guys want God to help protect you with like he protected David?
[14:18] What'd you say? David's the guy who fought the big giant. I know, that's funny, isn't it? Yeah, he was little.
[14:29] You're right. You have that book at home? Oh, yeah. He was little, but he was giant because he had God.
[14:41] You're right, Brayden. None of you guys are scared of anything? You guys are just super tough like David? That's pretty cool. I wish I was super tough like him. My dad taught me that.
[14:53] Your dad taught you how to be tough and how to trust God? That's pretty good. You guys are good at that. And my mom. And your mom? I'm glad. They taught you good, Jacqueline.
[15:06] All right. Can you guys fold your hands so we can say a prayer? Me? Dear God, thank you so much for being here with us today.
[15:22] Please bless us so that we can have the courage like David and be strong and tough and never be afraid with you by our side. Amen.
[15:32] Amen. Amen. You guys are going to go with us, Adrian. Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen.
[16:12] My name is Madison Bull, and I'm sure that a lot of you guys have seen me around, but if not, I'm very happy to introduce myself today. If you are one of the people who don't know me, I have been attending our church since I was about two years old when I started preschool, and I've been coming ever since with my parents, my brother, and my sister.
[16:37] Many years ago, we had a lot of youth, and we did things, and we did things, but nothing compares to what we've been doing today. And since today is Youth Sunday, I think it's a perfect time to share some of those things with you guys.
[16:49] I'm here today to talk to you guys about some of the amazing things your youth have been doing this past year. Last spring, my brother got involved with mowing the church's lawn. He was doing an amazing job, which led me to notice that the church's landscaping needed some help.
[17:06] Like, a lot. So, me and my friends had the idea we wanted to fix it up. So we spent a couple days out there.
[17:17] We redid all the mulch on the back over here and right in the front entryway. We got some new plants, we planted them all, and we redid a lot of it. Looks great.
[17:28] Thank you. I appreciate that. Then throughout the summer, we continued to water when needed and basically just take care of it.
[17:42] We also worked very hard when the church was going through a major spring cleaning. We helped clean out the garage and a few of the attics in order to make sure the church was at its best possible condition moving forward.
[17:54] This was amazing because it allowed us to have so much more room for our annual Hot Chalk with God picnic, and we did things like VBS, and it just had so much more room that we could actually use the garage now instead of it being full of junk.
[18:08] We also set up for the children's annual picnic and vacation Bible school, and we spent a lot of time working on that. This place has taught me so many skills that I'm so thankful for.
[18:19] I've been a leader in Hot Chalk with God and S'mores for eight years now. I have learned that I am very happy working with these kids. They make me smile. Because of this, I am currently going to school for early childhood education right now, and I want to be an elementary teacher.
[18:38] I want to spend the rest of my life doing the things that I do here every single week because I love it so much, and I'm so incredibly thankful for everything that goes on here and all the programs that put me in the position I am in today.
[18:49] Getting so involved in our church has been the best decision that my family has ever made. I am here today reaching out to everyone in this congregation.
[19:01] Today is Youth Sunday, but I'm not just talking to the youth. Many of the teenagers here actually have to get kicked out because we love it so much and we're here a little too much, and Sunday nights, people want to go home.
[19:14] But we don't. Some of my greatest memories and friendships are here too. I would like our congregation to know how dedicated and passionate we are for our church and our programs, and most importantly, God.
[19:29] So I'm inviting all of you guys today to get involved with us because we have so much fun. If you're someone who has big ideas and wants to make this place even better, so am I. Let's work together sometime.
[19:40] Thank you. We truly have some amazing youth, I found out in the past several months.
[19:59] So today God tells us over and over again in the Bible not to be afraid. Our gifts today are one way that we trust God even in a world that sometimes keeps telling us that we need to be afraid.
[20:13] We let go of thinking that we're on our own and live each day in graceful dependence on God. Let us gather our gifts together, take time, and offer them to God in gratitude and praise.
[20:39] to God.
[20:54] You call me out upon the waters The great unknown will feed me And there I find you in the mystery In oceans deep My faith will stand And I will call upon your name And keep my eyes above the waves When oceans rise My soul will rest in your embrace For I am yours
[21:58] And you are mine Your grace abounds in deepest waters Your sovereign hands will be my guide Where feet may fail and fear surrounds me You've never failed And you won't start now And I will call upon your name And keep my eyes above the waves When oceans rise
[23:00] My soul will rest in your embrace For I am yours And you are mine Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders Let me walk upon the waters Wherever you would call me Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander And my faith would be made stronger In the presence of my Savior Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders
[24:02] Let me walk upon the waters Let me walk upon the waters Wherever you would call me Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander My faith would be made stronger In the presence of my Savior In the presence of my Savior I will call upon your name I will call upon your name And keep my eyes above the waves And keep my eyes above the waves My soul will rest in your embrace My soul will rest in your embrace For I am yours And you are mine And keep my eyes above the waves Thank you Thank you
[25:03] Thank you Amen.
[25:47] Amen. Amen.
[26:32] You please join me in prayer. O God of all creation, we begin our time of prayer with gratitude for all the ways that we have been touched by grace and your love this past week.
[26:48] We celebrate life's simple pleasures, a cup of coffee, a phone call with a friend, board games and puzzles, laughter over silly things, walks, the gift of life itself.
[27:03] During this time, we pray that we will never take again for granted the opportunity to worship side by side, the handshake with a stranger who may soon turn to a friend, a hug with a friend, a boring day.
[27:19] Thank you for all the beauty that lifts our spirits and the kindness that is springing up all around us as we all breathe in your Holy Spirit and then breathe out with one great hallelujah.
[27:31] Precious Lord, during these challenging times, we dare to open our whole selves to your transforming work of love. Yet we have also discovered the many obstacles that we often place in the way.
[27:48] We recognize how often we rest in complacency, not appreciating the simple pleasures in life, how attached we become to controlling our environments, how easily we succumb to fears and we shrink from trusting.
[28:05] Save us from our fears, our selfish tendencies, that we might become the people we want to be, the people that you have called us to be.
[28:16] You are the God of light who sees us as our perfectly imperfect selves and loves each one of us just the same. You continue to invite us to come to you, to trust you, to surrender ourselves to your care.
[28:35] And you meet us in this place. Oh, loving God, we are learning that there is little in life that we cannot bring to you in prayer. You are the source of strength and hope and healing.
[28:51] In the midst of our community here lie so many needs. We pray for each of the people around us. Grant them comfort. Grant them peace.
[29:02] Show them your love. We ask that you renew each person's energy and sustain them. For each of us who have been brought down with anxiety about tomorrow's problems, shelter each one of us in the embrace of your spirit, that we might know that we are never alone.
[29:23] And so we take a moment as we offer our own silent prayers to you now. wherever we find ourselves, we trust that you meet us there as we open our hearts and our souls to you.
[29:48] Nudge us into the realization, Lord, that with you a new life, a new peace is possible. Remake us into ones who choose gratitude and service and hope.
[30:02] And as we leave today renewed by word and prayer and song, help us to never forget that you have blessed us to be a blessing to others through Jesus Christ.
[30:15] Amen. Good morning, Pendleton Center. Today's reading is from the book of 1 Samuel, chapter 17.
[30:32] Good morning, Pendleton Center. Good morning, Pendleton Center.
[30:44] Today's reading is from the book of 1 Samuel, chapter 17, 4 through 11, and 20 to 25. A giant nearly 10 feet tall stepped out from the Philistine line into the open, Boliath from Gath.
[31:03] He had a bronze helmet on his head and was dressed in armor, 126 pounds of it. He wore bronze shin guards and carried a bronze sword.
[31:15] His spear was like a fence rail. The spear tip alone weighed over 15 pounds. His shield bearer walked ahead of him. Goliath stood there and called out to the Israelite troops, Why bother using your whole army?
[31:31] Am I not Philistine enough for you? And you're all committed to Saul, aren't you? So pick your best fighter and pit him against me. If he gets the upper hand and kills me, the Philistines will all become your slaves.
[31:45] But if I get the upper hand and kill them, you'll all become our slaves and serve us. I challenge the troops of Israel this day, Give me a man. Let's fight it out together. When Saul and his troops heard the Philistines' challenge, they were terrified and lost all hope.
[32:03] David was up at the crack of dawn, and having arranged for someone to tend his flock, took the food and was on his way, just as Jesse had directed him. He arrived at the camp just as the army was moving into battle formation, shouting the war cry.
[32:20] Israel and the Philistines moved into position, facing each other, battle ready. David left his bundles of food in the care of his sentry, ran to the troops who were deployed, and greeted his brothers.
[32:32] While they were talking together, the Philistine champion, Goliath of Gath, stepped out from the front lines of the Philistines and gave his usual challenge. David heard him. The Israelites, to a man, fell back the moment they saw the giant, totally frightened.
[32:49] The talk among the troops was, Have you ever seen anything like this? This man openly and defiantly challenging Israel, the man who kills the giant will have it made.
[33:01] The king will offer him a huge reward, offer his daughter as a bride, and give his entire family a free ride. Then David took his shepherd's staff, selected five smooth stones from the brook, and put them in the pocket of his shepherd's pack, and with his sling in his hand, approached Goliath.
[33:31] As the Philistine paced back and forth, his shield bearer in front of him, he noticed David. He took one look down on him and sneered. A mere youngster, apple-cheeked and peach-fuzzed.
[33:43] The Philistine ridiculed David. Am I a dog that you come after me with a stick? And he cursed him by his gods. Come on, said the Philistine. I'll make roadkill of you for the buzzards.
[33:54] I'll turn you into a tasty morsel for the field mice. David answered, You come at me with sword and spear and battle axe. I come at you in the name of God of the angel armies, the God of Israel's troops, whom you curse and mock.
[34:07] This very day, God is handing you over to me. I'm about to kill you, cut off your head, and serve up your body, and the bodies of your Philistine buddies to the crows and coyotes. The whole earth will know that there is an extraordinary God in Israel.
[34:22] And everyone gathered here will learn that God doesn't save by means of sword or spear. The battle belongs to God. He's handing you to us on a platter. That roused the Philistine, and he started toward David.
[34:34] David took off from the front line, running toward the Philistine. David reached into his pocket for a stone, slung it, and hit the Philistine hard in the forehead, and bedding the stone deeply.
[34:45] The Philistine crashed face down in the dirt. That's how David beat the Philistine, with a sling and a stone. He hit him and killed him. No sword for David. Then David ran up to the Philistine and stood over him, pulled the giant sword from its sheath, and finished the job by cutting off his head.
[35:02] When the Philistines saw that their great champion was dead, they scattered, running for their lives. This is the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Once upon a time, there was a boy named David.
[35:32] David loved the Lord, and the Lord loved David. David had several brothers who were camped out at the Philistine-slash-Israelite war lines. One day, David's father packed lunches for the older brothers and sent David off to the war front to feed his brothers.
[35:46] Hot dogs! Get your steamy hot dogs here! Hot dogs? We don't want no stinking hot dogs here!
[35:59] You can wear it, pizza. Feed, fly, bow, thumb, I smell. Hot dogs? You wimp- Heh! You wimpie Israelites are having hot dogs? Ha! We're over here chum-dum on supreme pizza!
[36:14] Dude, that guy Goliath has been out here every day for a month. Somebody needs to set him straight. Somebody needs to take him out. Show him the door. Waste his sorry butt. Duke and mo- I think we get the point.
[36:26] Hey, they just need to get rid of the dude. That's all I'm saying. I think I can take him out. No. Yes, I can. No. Yes, I can.
[36:38] Nope. Yes, I can. Nope. Yes, I can. He will literally squish you like a bug. Dude! Well, I'm gonna go ask King Saul.
[36:49] King Saul. King Saul. I think I can beat that.
[36:59] Overgrown. Dirty. Yellow-bellied. Sap-sucking. Leap-eating. Nose-picking. Belly-button-lint-licking. Giant of a man. Am not.
[37:12] R2. Am not. R2. Am not. R2. Am not. R2. David.
[37:22] David. R2. If it will shut you up, go ahead and try. Let's take all of my armor. You mean I get to use all your armor? Cool. My car will be sparkly clean and protected.
[37:34] No. David. I said all my armor. Not my armor all. I knew that. No, you didn't. Yes, I did. No, you didn't. Yes, I did. David, just go.
[37:47] All right. This will protect my head. These will protect my shins. This will protect my unmentionables. What about the sword?
[37:58] Can I have the sword too? You are going to die. No, I'm not.
[38:09] Yes, you are. No, I'm not. That's not. Yes, you are. No, I'm not. All right, listen. You don't get this, all right? You are going to die. No, I'm not. Yes, you are. Wait, hold on.
[38:27] That was no fair. Let me try again. So, there you have it. Because David accepted the armor of man, Goliath became champion, and that is why all the world worships a pagan god called Baal, because David cannot stand up to the...
[38:42] Hold on there. Hold on. This is not what happened, and we are not worshiping a pagan god. Yes, David did love God, and God did love David, but it went something more like this.
[38:59] If you think your god is more powerful than my god Baal, why won't one of you come and defeat me? Oh, king, if it pleases you, let me prove myself to the Philistines that our god is more powerful than their god.
[39:15] Let me show the one they call Goliath that he can be defeated. David, I can do it, king. I will not disgrace our god. David, you are just a boy. I may be just a boy, but that means nothing when I have the power of god on my side.
[39:28] Okay, David. God be with you, but use my armor to protect yourself. Your armor is too big. I have all the protection I need from my god. Am I a dog?
[39:45] You come at me with sticks. Today I will be feeding the birds of the air and beasts of the land with your flesh. You come to me with a shield and a sword, but I come to you with the name of the Lord Almighty, whom you have cursed.
[39:58] Today the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I will feed the birds of the air and the beasts of the land with your flesh. Have a deal. So you see, David did not need the armor that the king had to offer.
[40:17] David knew that God was more than powerful enough to get the job done. But dude, David and God were tight like that. They were hangers together, like rock solid, like amigos.
[40:30] Yes, they were. And the relationship that David had with God is the relationship that Jesus wants to have with you, and you, and you, and all of you. So together, you and Jesus can defeat the Goliath that you come into contact with every day.
[40:47] Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen. I'm Cory Margarucci.
[41:15] I'm a student at UB, and we're here to talk about David and Goliath, as we just saw. So I'm going to ask a couple of questions first. I'm a teacher, so I like asking questions.
[41:26] But who here has heard of David and Goliath before? Okay, that's good. I think everybody has. Some of us might be asleep. I don't know.
[41:37] And if somebody could just shout out when they can take a guess at the first time they heard the story was? Sunday school.
[41:48] Everybody's so active today. I know, we're excited for the Bills game. So I think David and Goliath is a really good story, especially for kids, because they see little David, who they can kind of relate to because they're all cute and kind of small like David.
[42:06] And then they're taking down big Goliath. Now, I know earlier we took a measure to see what nine feet is like. Normally, when I picture Goliath, I kind of picture Mr. Putney.
[42:17] If you know Mr. Putney. He's really tall, just like Goliath. And he's also very mean and scary like Goliath. Mr. Putney's not mean and scary. But, so yeah.
[42:30] It's really great for kids. Now, what I don't like a ton about it is normally when we talk about it, we talk about how David beat Goliath because he had the power of God.
[42:41] But I don't really see it as much as that. Not that God doesn't give people his power. But that when we looked at all the soldiers, they couldn't face Goliath.
[42:51] And they couldn't do it because they were just too afraid. What God had done was he went in to David and he gave him his power to get rid of his fear. All he had was a sling and some pebbles.
[43:03] God didn't come down and give him the holy sling of mightiness and power. He just took his own sling and a couple of stones.
[43:14] In high school, I had this woman who everybody called Tiger Lady. She would come in during our gold period, which is normally when people would come in and speak to us.
[43:25] And we called her Tiger Lady because she'd come in and she'd talk about tigers. Now, what she would talk about is how back in the day, cavemen would fight tigers and they would feel lots of stress.
[43:37] It would be very hard. I know I would feel very daunted going up against a tiger. And even with the power of God, I don't know if I could take it. It's honestly kind of on me. I shouldn't have chosen to fight a tiger.
[43:49] But she would come in. She would tell us all about that stress that caused cavemen. And then she said, now we still face that kind of stress. But we'll be in the form of our tigers, which are like, for me, tests and homework and having a lot of stuff to do.
[44:07] And it could be pretty much the same for other people. You know, you have a job interview or I have taxes due. It can be tough and stressful and it can make us afraid.
[44:18] Now, she would go through like breathing exercises with us and some other things that we could do to get rid of the fear. It was honestly kind of funny because I went to a Catholic high school. So you think that they would talk about how God is with us, but no, we have breathing exercises.
[44:35] But she helped us face our tigers. And for today, we're going to call those Goliaths because I'd considered Goliath to be kind of like a tiger to David.
[44:46] I would feel just as afraid being up against Goliath as I would against a tiger. But a lot of these Goliaths aren't really that bad. When I had mentioned, I had mentioned things that would make me afraid are tests and homework.
[45:02] You can tell I'm a student. But what really makes me afraid about them is I don't know if I'll do well. But I need to know that God is with me.
[45:15] Up until that test, God was with me helping me prepare. Next week, I have an exam on Saturday. I don't know why they picked Saturday for that thing. It kind of makes me upset.
[45:26] But I have to go. And I've been studying. I started this week. I'm going to study all the rest of the week. And I need to know that I shouldn't be afraid of this because God's helping me prepare. He's being with me, getting me prepared.
[45:38] Same thing with homeworks. I normally do well on my homeworks. I'm not trying to brag. But then I have another homework assignment due. And I'm afraid that I'm not going to do well on it.
[45:49] And then I end up doing well on it. And why was I afraid in the first place? God helped me take notes and study and focus in my class. So why should I be afraid of my homework?
[45:59] In Deuteronomy chapter 31, Moses says to the Israelites to be strong and courageous.
[46:10] Do not be afraid or terrified because of them. The Lord your God goes with you. He will never leave you nor forsake you. So I find that to fit in perfectly with the fear that we're facing.
[46:25] Because Moses said that right around when he was about to die. And they were going to pass the reins on to Joshua. Now what leads on in Deuteronomy is Joshua will go with the Israelites.
[46:37] And they will conquer a bunch of kings and nations. Because they're taking back the promised land. If I was Joshua, I would be very afraid.
[46:48] Eventually you get to a book where it just lists for, in my Bible, it's two pages of all the kings and all the nations that Joshua had conquered.
[46:58] There's no way the Israelites were not afraid at some point. And there's actually one story in the Bible that talked about it, which was at Jericho. So in Jericho, there were these big walls.
[47:09] And everybody was really afraid. The walls were like extremely scary to them. They didn't know how they were going to get through the walls. They sent spies into the city. They didn't know what to do. Then Joshua told the people that God would be with them.
[47:22] And God gave them a plan. And they followed God's plan. And they weren't afraid. And eventually Jericho's walls and the city came crumbling down by the power of God. Because the Israelites weren't afraid.
[47:33] Without any fear or doubt, they used their own strength that God had given them. And they said, Again, in Isaiah chapter 41, verse 10, Isaiah will say, Do not fear, for I am with you.
[47:51] Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Too often I'll find myself feeling powerless because I'll be afraid.
[48:05] I need to know that God's with me and that I have the power and that God's letting me know that I have that. I'll end it off with one more story that I have about one of the other times that I was most afraid in my life.
[48:19] It was about four years ago. I normally go on the mission trips. I was just coming home from one. We went to Michigan. And the day we got home, my mouth really hurt.
[48:33] And I told myself, I just didn't brush well enough at camp. It makes sense. I wasn't at home. But then the next day I woke up and everywhere in my mouth hurt.
[48:45] I ended up having this mouth infection called acute necrotizing ulcerative gingivitis. I have a picture of it. I picked this one because you don't see all inside my mouth because that would be really gross.
[48:57] But you can kind of see like the scabs up onto my lip. It was like that in my whole mouth. It was really hard to eat or drink because everything hurt. I didn't really move my mouth at all.
[49:09] For a week, I just sat at home in my chair playing games with my friends. I looked kind of like this. In the picture, I kind of looked like a zombie. I did really look like a zombie.
[49:20] My parents called me a zombie. They're right there. I called you out in front of the whole congregation, Mom. So I ended up having to go to the hospital.
[49:35] And I got my first, it was not only my first time going to the hospital, but I also got two IVs and it was my first time ever getting an IV. And it was really scary.
[49:46] I was just kind of chilling in the hospital. And then Pastor Tom just came. And I didn't know Pastor Tom was coming.
[49:57] My mom didn't ask Pastor Tom to come. He just showed up. And it was really nice of him. He came in. He apologized that everything was going so poorly after the mission trip.
[50:07] And he prayed with me. And when he had prayed with me, he talked about how God was with me and God will help me heal and that I didn't need to be afraid. And it really helped.
[50:20] I ended up going home. I was eating and drinking again. And I healed like within two days. It was gone.
[50:30] And when I looked back on it, I realized the IV was very helpful. But also, being able to face my fear and start eating and drinking again was also very important.
[50:46] Because the reason that I wasn't getting better for a whole week was because I wasn't eating and drinking and getting what my body needed to fight the infection. But as soon as I knew that God was with me and I got rid of that fear, I started eating and drinking again, even though it hurt because I knew I needed to and I had to face this.
[51:06] And it helped me recover. So I hope that we can all let God give us his power and wipe away our fear when we face our own Goliaths.
[51:18] Please pray with me. Dear God, thank you so much for all of your strength, all of your power, and always being with me.
[51:29] Please help me to not be afraid and to be able to face my Goliaths as I go forth and do your work. Please help the Bills today also.
[51:41] Amen. Amen. Good morning.
[52:10] I noticed he didn't say that being afraid of preaching was one of his fears. So I'm like, go for it.
[52:21] Yes. We had a bishop once who encouraged us to look for, listen for how God was working among our people, young people, all the people, to see what God might have in mind.
[52:51] And one of the things that felt so important when we talked about this service was how do you know you're called until you get a chance to get up and do what God wants you to do.
[53:06] And so here we are. Did I miss a song? Okay. Well, we're going to go to that. I don't have one of those. And that's a good thing.
[53:17] So we're going to do the song. So you can go ahead. And since this is a non-communion moment, let me just tell you that this is, we talk about God's heavenly banquet and you can have bread and juice or there's a hot dog and there's pizza.
[53:37] But there also is an earthly feast in the dining room. So everybody, please stay and have something to eat this morning. Now I'll sit down. Absolutely. Dedicated and passion are definitely the two words I would use to describe our youth.
[53:56] And they've done a great job so far. They have given us a challenge, however, with the songs they've chosen today. And so, Pastor Kathy, it's good that you let us come up because we will need a breather in between the two that we're going to do now and the one we will do as a closing.
[54:10] We are going to start with the song, Thrive. So I invite you to stand and there are challenges to sing and dance to the Lord. We are in this worn and weary land where many a dream has died.
[54:53] Like a tree planted by the water, we never will run dry. We never will run dry. So living water flowing through, God we thirst for more of you.
[55:11] Fill our hearts and flood us the ones we want we desire. Just to know you and to make you know we lift your pain our lives, shine like the sunny darkness running at the time.
[55:36] We hope we will be more so much more than ordinary lives. And time for us to hold it just above And we were made to thrive Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh To your word we're digging deep To know our Father's heart To the world we're reaching out To show them who you are So living water flowing through God, we care for more of you
[56:38] Fill our hearts and flood our souls On what we desire Just to know you and to make your own And to make your life Shine like a sun made dark It's fun in our time We know we were made for so much more Lord, our very lives Stand for us to hold it just above And we will be tonight Love unspeakable Love unspeakable Love unspeakable Anything is possible Joy unspeakable
[57:39] Love unspeakable Love unspeakable Anything is possible Love unspeakable Anything is possible Just to know you and to make you known Lift your name on high Shine like the sun made dark as one at night We were made for so much more Ordinary lives It's so light for us to know Just to know We were made to die
[58:42] Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh We were made to die And we can thrive because we serve a God Who is greater and stronger and higher than any other So our next song is Our God Why are you turned into wine?
[59:47] Open the eyes of the blind There's no one like you Not like you To the darkness you shine Out of the ashes we rise There's no one like you Not like you Our God is greater Our God is stronger But you are higher than any other Our God is healer Awesome power Our God Our God Our God is greater Into the darkness you shine
[60:50] God Of all right Come on God, I love you.
[61:05] Our God is greater. Our God is stronger. God, you are higher than any other. Our God is healer.
[61:17] Awesome and powerful. Our God, our God. Our God is greater. Our God is stronger.
[61:27] God, you are higher than any other. Our God is healer. Awesome and powerful. Our God, our God.
[61:57] Our God is for us. And who could ever stop us? And if our God is with us, then what could stand again?
[62:09] And if our God is for us, then what could stand again? And if our God is with us, then what could stand again? What could stand again?
[62:25] What could stand again? Our God is greater.
[62:36] Our God is greater. Our God is stronger. God, you are higher than any other. Our God is healer.
[62:46] Awesome and powerful. Our God, our God. Our God is greater, our God is stronger God, you are higher than any other Our God is evil, awesome and power Our God, our God And if our God is for us, then you'll put out the sacrifice And if our God is in us, then we'll stand and care And if our God is for us, then you'll put out the sacrifice And if our God is with us, then we'll stand and care God, we'll stand and care God, we'll stand and care God, we'll stand and care God, we'll stand and care
[63:50] God, we'll stand and care God, you are higher than any other Our God is healer, awesome and power Our God, our God You may be seated And sometimes a good pastor just needs to know when to get out of the way Surely God is praised The Lord be with you Lift up your hearts Let us give thanks to the Lord, our God It is right and a good and joyful thing always and everywhere
[64:54] To give thanks to you Father, almighty God, creator of heaven and earth You formed us in your image and breathed into us the breath of life When we turned away and our love failed, your love remained steadfast You delivered us, each and all from captivity Made covenant to be our sovereign God And spoke to us through your prophets Who looked for that day when justice shall roll down like waters And righteousness like an ever-flowing stream When nations shall not lift up sword against nation And neither shall they learn war anymore And so, O God, with your people on earth and all the company of heaven We praise your name and join their unending hymn Holy, holy, holy Lord God of power and might
[65:56] Heaven and earth are full of your glory Hosanna in the highest Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord Hosanna in the highest Holy are you and blessed is your son, Jesus Christ Your spirit anointed him to preach good news to the poor And release to the captives Recovery of sight to the blind To set at liberty those who are oppressed And to announce that the time had come when you would save your people He healed the sick He fed the hungry and ate with sinners And by the baptism of his suffering, death, and resurrection You gave birth to your church Delivered each of us from slavery to sin and death And made with us a new covenant by water and the spirit At his ascension, you exalted him To sit and reign with you at your right hand
[66:57] On the night On the night In which he gave himself up for us He took bread And he gave thanks to God Who had given all that it took To make this bread And he broke it And he gave it to his disciples And he said Take and eat from this all of you In remembrance of my body Which is given for you For the forgiveness of sins And likewise After the meal was over He took the cup He gave thanks to God For the fruit of the vine And said Take and drink from this Each and every one of you In remembrance of my blood Which is poured out for you For the forgiveness of sins Day after day After year After forever
[67:57] And so We give thanks For the forgiving And loving blood of Christ And so In remembrance Of these Your mighty acts In Jesus Christ We offer ourselves Ourselves As a holy and living sacrifice In thanksgiving In union with Christ's offering for us As we proclaim the mystery of faith Christ has died Christ is risen Christ will come again Pour out your Holy Spirit On us gathered here And on these gifts Of bread and cup Make them be for us The body and the blood of Christ That we may be for the world The body of Christ Redeemed by his blood By your spirit Make us one with Christ One with each other And one in ministry To all the world Until Christ comes In final victory And we feast At his heavenly banquet Through your son
[68:59] Jesus Christ With the Holy Spirit In your holy church All honor And glory Is yours Almighty God Now and forever Amen And let us Offer the prayer That Jesus taught us Saying Our Father Who art in heaven Hallowed be thy name Thy kingdom come Thy will be done On earth As it is in heaven Give us this day Our daily bread And forgive us Our trespasses As we forgive Those who trespass Against us And lead us Not to temptation But deliver us From evil For thine is the kingdom And the power And the glory Forever and ever Amen You know We take this Sacrament of communion Just as Corey Was speaking And as the youth Shared That we do
[70:00] Become afraid We're human We get worried Nervous Anxious And so We come To this table Week after week After day After year All our lives To be fed With the reassurance Of God's presence So You come You receive This bread And this cup You receive The assurance Of Jesus Christ You go into the world And maybe you face giants And then you come back Another week And get fed again Each week For the journey ahead May you know The love That comes In the body And the blood Of Jesus Christ We have
[71:15] Gluten-free Packaged cups And juice We have gluten-free bread And juice They'll be over here The rest of the stations Will be Gluten bread With juice And so There's also Some packaged ones Over there So when you come To receive Hands out For the bread Or the cup You just ask And you'll receive it As a gift Precisely God Academia Dontn wanna Sound Joes
[72:25] Thank you.

[73:25] Thank you. If the people is prepared, please come down the center aisle and go this way and that way.

[80:54] I will stand upon your truth. And all my days I'll live for you.
[81:12] I will stand upon your truth. And all my days I'll live for you.
