Description

This year we will be putting on a children's advent play called Christmas Hang-ups. This is a fun and exciting play, and our children have been working hard!

Our plan is for this to be the family service on Christmas Eve, followed by a "Birthday Party for Jesus." We can't wait to see all of our children's smiling faces up on the altar.

We hope that this will be an intergenerational event that is enjoyed by all!

Watch Christmas Eve at 4:00 PM - online or in-person.

[4:08] I felt some vibrations. I think the Watsons are taking the boxes of decorations out of the attic. We'd better get ready. Our box could be next. Yeah, ornaments on the tree should be going up soon.

[4:19] Help! Help! Angela! Beth! Who's that? Help! Over here! Somebody help me! Oh, it's Frosty. Come on, Beth. Let's help her. One, two, three, lift!

[4:35] There you go. Thanks. I hate being stored on my back. It makes it almost impossible for me to stand up by myself.

[4:47] Well, you're standing now and looking ready to adorn another Christmas tree at the Watsons. Oh, good. Yeah, it's almost time, too. You mean they're about to put ornaments on the tree?

[4:57] Sounds like it. I think our boss is next. Cool. So, how do I look? Your nose is a little crooked. Really? Can you straighten it?

[5:08] Yeah. Here. Can anybody see my wings? Yeah, they could use a little fluffing. You mind? Not at all. All my points going in the right direction?

[5:20] Yeah, all five look in A-OK. Great. Wow, it must be great to be a star or an angel. Yes, it is. Just to be a part of the first Christmas.

[5:31] That's right. Angels and stars were a big part of that day. Okay. Okay. Thank you.

[10:20] That means hello And actually goodbye too Hello Hey there Hows it going? Great I think you're in the wrong box Yeah, this is the box for the Christmas ornaments Oh, I see. Do you play a tune?

[10:40] A tune? Yeah, like a Christmas carol or something. Um, no. Should I? Well... What's the matter?

[10:53] Nothing, except... Except what? We were, well, I was just wondering what you have to do with Christmas. Oh, where I come from, we have Christmas. Beautiful Christmases, in fact.

[11:07] Sunshine, palm trees, the ocean. The ocean? Yes. Let me teach you something about Christmas in the islands of Hawaii.

[11:24] This is how we wish you a Merry Christmas. Nala, kavikimaka. This is how we wish you a Merry Christmas.

[11:39] Nala, kavikimaka. We wish you ma'u peace. We give makana gifts. We sing kanikanipele.

[11:52] That's jingle bells. Okay. What do you call me in Hawaii? Angel is anela. What do you call me in the islands? A star is called hoku.

[12:03] Cool. What is a snow person in your language? Well, I don't know. In Hawaii, there's no snow. Oh. This is how we wish you a Merry Christmas.

[12:28] Malek, kavikimaka. Malek, kavikimaka. This is how we wish you a Merry Christmas. Malek, kavikimaka.

[12:42] We wish you ma'u peace. We give makana gifts. We sing kanikanipele. That's jingle bells.

[12:56] Jingle bells. Jingle bells. Mahalo. Thank you.

[13:06] Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Cute.

[13:17] But I still don't think you belong on a Christmas tree. Why not? Well, just because. Because why? Because, well, we're all about Christmas. All right. Christmas is all about us.

[13:29] I still don't get it. Let me explain. Angela here is an angel. Yeah. Now, we all know that there were lots of angels at the first Christmas. The one in Bethlehem, which leads us to.

[13:41] Me. I'm Beth. That's short for the Star of Bethlehem. I'm sure you'll all agree that I'm not only part of the history of the first Christmas, but I'm also quite shiny.

[13:52] You simply glow, my dear. Thank you, Frost Woman. Oh, this is Frosty, the Snow Woman. I don't think I need to explain what she has to do with Christmas. No, I've heard a lot about you all.

[14:03] And Frosty, I love your song. Thanks. So... So... Uh, do you have a name? A name? Well, not really.

[14:16] In Hawaiian, ornaments are called wehi. Really? Too hard to say. Yeah, that doesn't sound merry at all. Well, you can call me a souvenir.

[14:28] Souvenir? Oh, yeah. That's very Christmassy. Yeah, I've heard lots of Christmas carols with the word souvenir. Oh, little town of souvenir, how we see thee lie.

[14:42] God rest ye merry souvenirs, let nothing you dismay. Hey, I'm standing right here. Ornaments have feelings, you know. See, that's the state, you're not even an ornament.

[14:54] I am, too. I've got a wire loop down my back and everything. Yeah, but you're not a true Christmas ornament. You're not even wintry.

[15:07] No, you're just from the wrong season. Hey, maybe if you put on his bargain... Maybe I could lend you a scarf. Maybe I could lend you a scarf. I'm wrong, I'm ever a scarf.

[15:18] I'm ready? Bye, Undo. Bye. Bye. Pandalop, Pandalop, it's Christmas time. Pandalop, Pandalop, it's Christmas time.

[15:35] Place on the window, the temperature has dropped. Grab your coat, grab your hat. Quick before it stops Funnel up, funnel up, it's cold outside Funnel up, funnel up, it's Christmas time It means it's a big fun to the forecast That means it's bound to snow Get your sled, follow us Come on, here we go Come on, here we go Funnel up, funnel up, it's cold outside Funnel up, funnel up, it's Christmas time There's a place on the window The temperature has lost Grab your coat, grab your hat Funnel up, funnel up, funnel up, funnel up Funnel up, funnel up, funnel up Funnel up, funnel up, funnel up Wait a minute!

[16:36] I don't need a toboggan or a scarf to have a place on this tree I mean, I am important to this family and they want to put me on display at Christmas time Do you know that for a fact? Absolutely! I remind them of something fun and exciting in their lives I was part of a happy celebration What kind of celebration?

[17:07] The Watson's 20th anniversary Really? I didn't know they'd been married for 20 years Yeah, they celebrated their anniversary with a really nice trip to Hawaii Didn't even know they were gone Well, maybe you ought to get to know the Watson's a little better instead of just hanging around on their tree once a year trying to look Christmasy Well, you know, yeah, I guess there is that Since I've been here, I found out that there are some ornaments in this box that were made by the Watson children when they were small Did you all know that?

[17:42] Yeah, they normally go to the back of the tree And, well, I shouldn't be spreading gossip, but some of those ornaments haven't been made out of the box in years Oh, really?

[17:54] The Watson kids are almost grown and they won't even notice anyway That's sad Just part of the gig, hula girl Some make it, some don't Hey, I've even heard that a few ornaments get accidentally thrown out with the tree every year Yeah, those from the back Oops That's horrible It happens, could happen to you, you know Frosty Just trying to keep it real here You mean I could get left in the box, or...

[18:25] Or... Or thrown out with the trash Oh no Hey, Frosty, you're looking a little thin on one side Let's see if we can find some extra snow in the box Yeah, we'll fix you right up Oh really?

[18:38] Thanks Okay then, I'll be right over here Right over here What a way to start my first Christmas I thought that it'd be different It's not what I expected I thought I'd find some friends Thought I'd be accepted But here I am, all by myself I've never felt this way And here I am, all by myself I've never felt this way I'm some friends Thought I'd be accepted But here I am All by myself I've never felt this way All alone at Christmas It's the saddest place to be

[19:39] To find love reflected In the lights upon the tree No one to share a smile with No gifts that are for me All alone at Christmas It's the saddest place to be Everybody's calling Everybody's calling They're tangled up in joy In tinsel and falling Oh, where they are I just don't know Somewhere else but here All alone at Christmas

[20:44] It's the saddest place to be To find love reflected In the lights upon the tree No one to share a smile with No gifts that are for me All alone at Christmas All alone at Christmas It's the saddest place to be Hey, kid.

[21:49] Don't let them get you down What?

[22:05] Who are you? The name's Tex. I'm part of the not-so-Christmassy ornament collection. You mean there are others like me? Are you kidding? There's lots like us. Souvenir ornaments, you mean?

[22:15] Yep, and some of them traditional types don't think we belong. Yeah, maybe we don't. Now don't go jump into conclusions. What? We're a part of this family just as much as them their other guys.

[22:27] Just as important. Really? Yep, some of us come from far off places. I do. I come from Hawaii. There you go. The Watsons got me at a dude ranch they visited with their kids.

[22:38] And the rest of our kind comes from all over. Cool. You want to meet the rest of the souvenirs? Sure. Hey guys, come on out and meet the new girl.

[22:50] Hey guys, come on out and meet the new girl. There's Lady Liberty.

[23:02] She's from New York City. Yay! Yay! Yay! And of course, Minnie Mouse. She made it in the box after the Watsons visited Florida.

[23:13] Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!

[23:24] Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!

[23:35] Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Good as new. You never looked better, Frost Girl. What?

[23:48] Who are... It's me, Frosty. It's me, Frosty. Tex, you remember? One of them souvenir ornaments. Oh yeah. How could I forget? Tex says we're just as important as you.

[24:00] He does, huh? Yeah, well, he has the right to be...wrong. Hey, now hold on there, buckaroos. We don't take kindly to your mouthing off like that.

[24:11] Especially right here in front of the new hula girl. You really think you're better than us? As good as. Wait a minute, guys. I didn't mean to start an argument. Hey, cowpoke dude.

[24:23] Step across...this line. Who? Me? You heard the Frost...you heard the Snow Woman. Hey, why don't all of you step across...this line?

[24:35] Hello. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. I think you guys could maybe be a little quieter out here.

[24:54] My wife's trying to get the baby to sleep so we could use her little help. Hey, I'm sorry, buckaroo. Yeah, we didn't know. Did you say baby? Yes, he's a newborn and he needs his sleep.

[25:05] A newborn? Yes, we're trying to stay warm in that stable over there and a manger, well, there's no crib for a bed as you all know. A stable?

[25:16] A manger? Your name wouldn't happen to be Joseph, would it? Yes, it would. Beth, Angela, you know this guy? We know about this guy.

[25:27] He's part of the first Christmas in Bethlehem just like us. What are you doing here, Joseph? Are you a souvenir or a real ornament? Hey, hold on there, Missy.

[25:39] Yeah, let's not start that again. Well, I'm not really an ornament at all. I'll just sit on the mantle this year with my family in a special place. Your family?

[25:50] Yes. Mary, my wife, gave birth to a son. It's God's son. Cool. Awesome. Wow. God's son, huh? Sounds downright interesting.

[26:01] Can you tell us about this baby? Can you tell us the whole story? Yeah, the only parts we know are about the stars. And angels. I'd be downright beholden to you if you'd tell us.

[26:12] Okay, okay. Well, it all started many years ago when prophets heard from God that he was going to send his son to save the world. Son? Na New Son!

[26:28] Oh, come Emmanuel, You are a monster. And then an angel appeared to Mary and told her that she would give birth to the one that was promised.

[26:54] Rejoice, rejoice, Emmanuel, now come to thee, O Israel.

[27:13] Once later, there was a new law that said we all had to go to our hometowns to pay taxes. So Mary and I left our home in Nazareth and made the wrong trip. Amen.

[27:26] Amen. Amen. The hills down a Bethlehem, how still we see thee lie.

[27:39] Above thy deep and dreamless sleep, the silent stars go by. Soon after we got there, Mary had the baby. We named him Jesus just as the angel told us to do.

[28:00] The hopes and fears of all the youth are blessed in me tonight.

[28:11] That night, angels appeared to a group of shepherds keeping sheep on the hillside. Angels they have heard our heart sweetly singing o'er the plains.

[28:28] An angel told the shepherds to come see the Savior for themselves. Come to Bethlehem and sing with whose birth the angels sing.

[28:45] Come adore and bend in thee, Christ the Lord, the new one King. Gloria in excelsis Deo.

[29:07] Gloria in excelsis Deo. Greater kings and wise men from the far east follow the stars that planed them to us.

[29:23] And they will serve Jesus, the Christ's child. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.

[29:43] Oh, I'll pray. Oh, I'll pray. And the silence bright, when the holy light was the birthday of the King.

[29:55] When the holy light was the birthday of the King. And the silence bright, when the holy light was the birthday of the King. When the holy light was the birthday of the King.

[30:17] And the holy light was the birthday of the King. And that's how it happened.

[30:28] Wow, that's great! So is that why we're all here? What do you mean by that, Frosty? The Savior's birth. Is that why we even have Christmas?

[30:40] Right, Joseph? That's right. It's really a birthday party for Jesus. But I still don't get it. Why such a big deal for a little baby, even if he was God's son?

[30:52] Well, Jesus doesn't say baby, and we don't stay in a bond forever. Later, Jesus changes the whole world. Really? I'll be.

[31:04] Can you tell us that story to Joseph? Well, sure. We can't just talk about how he came without talking about why he came. Now can we? He came to show the world to tell us who's we are.

[31:38] He came to trade us like Lord's heart. He came to mend our broken hearts that we might come to him.

[31:51] He came to be a friend to all. He came to show the love of God. He came to give his life for us.

[32:05] That we might come to him. That we might come to him. Oh, come let us adore him.

[32:18] Oh, come let us adore him. Oh, come let us adore him. Oh, come let us adore him, Christ the Lord.

[32:32] Oh, come let us adore him.

[33:02] He came to show the love of God. He came to give his life for us. That we might come to show the love of God.

[33:15] That we might come to him. Oh, come let us adore him. Oh, come let us adore him.

[33:29] Oh, come let us adore him. Oh, come let us adore him, Christ the Lord.

[33:39] Oh, come let us adore him. Oh, come let us adore him, Christ the Lord. Oh, come let us adore him, Christ the Lord.

[33:50] Oh, come let us adore him, Christ the Lord. Oh, come let us adore him, Christ the Lord.

[34:01] Oh, come let us adore him, Christ the Lord. Oh, come let us adore him, Christ the Lord.

[34:12] Oh, come let us adore him, Christ the Lord. Oh, come let us adore him, Christ the Lord.

[34:23] So, he did change the world. He should have been brought to you. And last year, he changed to Watson's too. How? Well, they got new hearts.

[34:33] New what? New hearts. Actually, totally new lives. Can you do that? Oh, is it like getting a new wire hanger or a paint touch-up? No, it's nothing they did on the outside.

[34:47] They first believed that Jesus is real and that he really did die for them. Then they asked God to make them brand new on the inside. Wow, cool.

[34:59] Did this new faith change everything about the Watson's? Yes. Like their marriage? Especially their marriage, Beth. Is that why they went to Hawaii to celebrate their anniversary?

[35:11] Well, that's part of it. They each welcomed new lives and celebrated 20 years together. They even renewed their vows in the islands. That's like a second wedding.

[35:23] That's so romantic. That's great. That's wonderful. Awesome. I hate to ask, but does this mean we won't be needed anymore?

[35:34] That we won't be coming out of the decorations box this year? Yeah, what about us old guys? Will we have a place in their new lives? Well, of course, Frosty. In fact, the new lives will make everything special.

[35:46] Now including all of you, but... But what? But Jesus will have first place. Great. As it should be. That's okay. Our stable.

[35:58] Our manger. The whole nativity scene will remind them that the Savior born in Bethlehem was born to save them. That's how their lives will be from now on. All about the Savior.

[36:09] Thank you. Cool. Sure. That's wonderful. Okay. Mr. Joseph, do you think we could see the baby? I mean, if Mary says it's all right. Well, I'll go ask.

[36:20] Why don't you guys stay here and I'll be right back. Okay. Okay. We'll wait. Sure. No problem. Well, Frosty.

[36:32] Yeah, hula girl. Looks like we're on equal ground now, hmm? Yes, it does. We're all special in the new life of the Watson family. I reckon that's true. Put her there, Angela.

[36:44] There it's X. I think I'm going to cry. Group hug. Group hug. Group hug.
