[14:57] Good morning. Happy Easter. Good morning. Good morning. This morning I'm going to be reading from Luke 24, verses 1-12.
[15:07] At the crack of dawn on Sunday, the women came to the tomb carrying the burial spices they had prepared.
[15:19] They found the entrance stone rolled back from the tomb, so they walked in. But once inside, they couldn't find the body of the Master Jesus.
[15:30] They were puzzled, wondering what to make of this. Then out of nowhere, it seemed, two men, light cascading over them, stood there.
[15:42] The women were awestruck and bowed down in worship. The men said, why are you looking for the living one in a cemetery? He is not here, but raised up.
[15:56] Remember how he told you when you were still back in Galilee that he had to be handed over to sinners, be killed on a cross, and in three days rise up.
[16:09] Then they remembered Jesus' words. They left the tomb and broke the news of all this to the eleven and the rest. Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the other women with them kept telling these things to the apostles, but the apostles didn't believe a word of it, though they thought they were making it all up.
[16:34] But Peter jumped to his feet and ran to the tomb. He stooped to look in and saw a few grave clothes. That's all.
[16:44] He walked away puzzled, shaking his head. This is the word of our Lord. Thanks be to God.
[16:55] God bless you. If I had only known the last time would be the last time.
[17:11] I would have put off all the things I had to do. I would have stayed a little longer, held on a little tighter.
[17:24] Now what I'd give for one more day with you. Cause there's a wound here in my heart where something's missing.
[17:38] I would have been a little bit of a pain. And they tell me that it's gonna heal with time. But I know you're in a place where all your wounds have been erased.
[17:51] And knowing yours are healed is healing mine. The only scars in heaven that won't belong to me and you.
[18:07] There'll be no such thing as broken. And all the old will be made new. And the thought that makes me smile now.
[18:22] Even as the tears fall down. Is that the only scars in heaven?
[18:33] Are on the hands that hold you now. I know the road you walked was anything but easy.
[18:47] You picked up your share of scars along the way. Oh, but now you're standing in the sun. You fought your fight and your race is run.
[19:00] The pain is all a million miles away. The only scars in heaven. The only scars in heaven. That won't belong to me and you.
[19:16] There'll be no such thing as broken. The only scars in heaven. And all the old will be made new. And the thought that makes me smile now.
[19:30] Even as the tears fall down. Is that the only scars in heaven.
[19:41] Yeah. Are on the hands that hold you now. That's the only scars in heaven. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. That's to the Burns Church. Hallelujah.
[19:52] Hallelujah. Hallelujah. For the hands that hold you now.
[20:07] There's not a day goes by that I don't see you. You live on in all the better parts of me Until I'm standing with you in the sun I'll fight this fight and this race I'll run Until I finally see what you can see Oh, the only scars in heaven That won't belong to me and you There'll be no such thing as broken And all the old will be made new And the thought that makes me smile now And even as the tears fall down Is that the only scars in heaven
[21:11] Are on the hands that hold you now Let us pray Lord, hold us Lift us And show us In Jesus' risen name, amen The scripture reading this morning Leaves us without some of the weight He's alive He's risen So I want to turn to The other, one of the other Easter stories From the Gospel of John And this is where Jesus appears to Mary In chapter 20 And she comes to the tomb The stones rolled away And she is in tears
[22:12] Where did they take him? She thought that someone had taken Jesus And Jesus appears And he says to her Woman, why are you looking?
[22:26] Why are you crying? Thinking he was the gardener She replied Sir, if you've carried him away Tell me where you have put him And I will get him And Jesus Turned to her And simply said Mary Mary And in the speaking Of her name He realized She realized I recognize that voice I recognize the sound That is my Savior Speaking my name And so the rejoicing began And the story began And people believed And people didn't believe And yet It's true The world Had been changed Forever This morning My question is How
[23:28] Does that change Your life? How does that change My life? What is it About Easter That helps us To have A different life A better life A changed life I might think About I'm going back up here So I can see you all Think about the first time You had any thought Of heaven Maybe You were a child And somebody talked About heaven You learned about Some version Or understanding Of what happens After people die I think I always believed In heaven But don't ask me Exactly what that was
[24:29] Or what it was like I don't know That any of us know A couple of years ago When I was Working In The cancer's Floor In a hospital In Denver There was a woman Who was beginning To realize That she probably Was not going To survive Physically survive The cancer That she had And she started Asking questions And she was not Sad or lost Yes we're wondering What's going on With my microphone She just wondered She had never been Exposed to Christian faith She'd never learned Anything She didn't read The Bible She didn't know Anything But she wanted To know And she said Well what do I Need to believe And I said
[25:29] Do you believe In God Yes I think so Do you know Who Jesus is Well Jesus Is God's son Do you Know anything More about Jesus And we talked A little bit More about Jesus And then So then There came a point Where she said I believe that I think I've Always believed that But I didn't know That I believed that But then She said What's going to happen What's going to happen After I die And my words To her And this happened Over several days Before she went home What is heaven Like And I said To her What is it You imagine What do you Imagine Heaven Will be like She didn't have Any children She began
[26:30] To imagine The dogs That they had Lost Over her life In heaven And I was like Yes My kind of woman Let all the pets Be in heaven And no allergies And no biting Or scratching Or tearing up Your furniture None of that No dog hair It stays on The dogs I might have An opinion About that stuff I said That's wonderful What else Can you tell me She said It's beautiful It's restful I said Well who would you see Who do you see She started Talking about People Who were important To her That had died And she said I think Maybe
[27:30] I imagine That they'll be there Will I recognize them This is where Opinions might be Different Because my opinion Was absolutely Because if I'm not Going to recognize The people That I want to see In heaven Then they're not Going to recognize me Then what are we doing That's in God's hands And I'll be dead So I just believe I don't Remember Whether Before I became A pastor Whether What happened After I died Mattered As much To me I believed In heaven I believed In God I believed In Jesus I just wasn't Worried I'm still Not worried But over The years Over the many Years Of being a Pastor Being a Human being
[28:30] We experience Life And birth And sickness And death We experience Loss Sometimes It isn't even A person It's a pet And then We begin To think What What God What What What do I Need to believe And what Can you tell Me And I Am Reminded Of the Passage From John I Am The Resurrection And the Life The one Who believes In me Will live Even Though They die That To me
[29:32] Became The meaning Of Easter That while Our bodies May die While the People We love And care About May leave Us That I Am comforted Even though I may Still hurt Because That person Is not Here I Rejoice That they Are in Heaven In Jesus Hands And this Song that You heard From Casting Crowns Speaks To the Fact That the One Who holds You Now The one Who holds You Now Is the Only one Who has Scars Because Those We love When they Die And they Rise In their Faith To heaven They have No more Scars They have No more Brokenness They walk
[30:33] They don't Weal They talk They are Not confused They are Not sick They are Not hurting And even In my Own Grief He can Come see Grandma If he Wants to Even In Grief Hi Charlie Are you Losing Your Pants This Is Life And this Is Life In the Face Of Facing Death Of Facing Fear This Is Life And it's Not just About Beautiful Perfect Toddlers Right Where's the
[31:34] Candles Do you see The candles You don't Know There They are That in Any Darkness In our Lives Light Shines Jesus Is The light It's Hot Jesus Is the Light Of the World And oh My goodness The comfort To my Heart To imagine Our Beloveds Our Family's Beloveds Your Beloveds Who sometimes Become our Beloveds As a Community Wrapped In care And beauty And love In the Arms Of the Savior Jesus Christ Who has More love Than any Of us Can be Imagining Anywhere Anytime And to
[32:34] That I think The only Response Is Thanks Be To God He is Risen He is Risen And your Response Is He is Risen Indeed He is Risen Amen Thanks Be To God Some of The words In the Song We're About To sing Are Living He Loved Me Dying He Saved Me And He Has Risen Indeed So I Invite You To Stand As We Sing On This Glorious

[38:40] Day Oh Glorious Day Glorious Day Glorious You may be Seated Vatican the glorious day to come and the glorious day that is today.
[39:28] Let us ready our hearts as we come to the Lord's table to receive the gift of communion. The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts.
[39:40] Lift up the heart of the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord, our God. It is right to give our thanks and grace. It is right and a good and joyful thing. Always and everywhere to give thanks to you.
[39:54] Almighty God, the creator of heaven and earth. You formed us in your image and breathed into us the breath of life. When we turned away and our love failed, your love remained steadfast.
[40:11] You delivered us from captivity, made covenant to be our sovereign God, brought us to a land flowing with milk and honey, and set before us the way of life.
[40:25] And so with your people on earth and all the company of heaven, we praise your name and join their unending hymn. Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory.
[40:42] Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. Holy are you and blessed is your son, Jesus Christ.
[40:56] By the baptism of his suffering, death, and resurrection, you gave birth to your church, delivered us from slavery to sin and death, and made with us a new covenant by water and the spirit.
[41:08] By your great mercy, we have been born anew to a living hope through the resurrection of your son from the dead into an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfailing.
[41:26] Once we were no people, but now we are your people. Declaring your wonderful deeds in Christ, you called us out of darkness into his marvelous light.
[41:39] When the Lord Jesus ascended, he promised to be with us always in the power of your word and Holy Spirit. On the night, Jesus gave himself up for us.
[41:53] He took bread. He gave thanks to you. He broke the bread. And he gave it to his disciples and he said, take and eat. This is my body.
[42:05] which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me. When the supper was over, he took the cup. He gave thanks to you.
[42:17] And he gave it to his disciples and he said, drink from this, all of you, for this is my blood. Sign of the new covenant, which is poured out for you and for many, for the forgiveness of sin.
[42:32] Every time that you drink of it, do this in remembrance of me. On the day you raised him from the dead, he was recognized by his disciples in the breaking of the bread.
[42:45] And in your power and in your Holy Spirit, your church has continued in the breaking of the bread and the sharing of the cup. And so, in remembrance of these, your mighty acts in Jesus Christ, we offer ourselves in praise and thanksgiving as a holy and living sacrifice in union with Christ's offering for us as we proclaim the mystery of faith.
[43:12] Christ has died. Christ has risen. Christ will come again. Pour out your Holy Spirit on us gathered here and on these gifts of bread and cup.
[43:24] Make them be for us the body and blood of Christ, that we may be for the world the body of Christ, redeemed by his blood. By your Spirit, make us one with Christ, one with each other, and one in ministry to all the world until Christ comes in final victory and we feast at his heavenly banquet.
[43:44] Through your Son, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in your Holy Church, all honor and glory is yours, Almighty God, now and forever.
[43:56] Amen. Amen. And let us pray together the prayer that Jesus taught us to pray. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
[44:07] Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.
[44:22] And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
